This is a hard post to write but I feel like it needs to be talked about. Like most creative types, I find it really easy to make a mess while creating and then donβt have the energy to clean up after. Between the stress of everything going on in 2020, anxiety, and depression, this lack of energy has been even worse lately. I am lucky enough to have an entire room dedicated to my crafting and I let it get so messy the last few of months that I didnβt even want to spend time in it.
I finally realized how bad my creative space had gotten when I was purposefully not doing crafts that I knew I had all the stuff for because it meant going into my messy craft room. One late night, I finally decided to do something to fix that negative feeling. I moved all of my costume closet into my guest room and eliminated a lot of boxes by rearranging and using larger containers that could stack better. As soon as I started it, I didnβt want to stop. All the energy flowed and it felt amazing to make my space mine again.
Now that Iβve taken the time to clean up my space, I have some new motivation to create. At the beginning of the year, I made a goal that I wouldnβt buy any more craft supplies and would only pick projects that could use up what I have at home. With an organized space, itβll be a lot easier to find all of my materials and most of all it makes me feel calmer and more ready to create.
I know that it is hard to keep your space put together, but an organized space is really important for a clean mind. So here is your reminder to take 15 minutes and clean up your crafting area, even if itβs your living room or a corner of the bedroom. I promise, it will feel good when youβre done.
