Toilet Paper Coasters

I saw a video on Pinterest that had some really cool upcycling projects using toilet paper rolls. Naturally, I had to try at least one. It didn’t turn out how the video did, so I ended up doing it a little differently but it still works!

What I used

Toilet paper rolls

Ruler

Scissors

Mod podge

Paint brush

The video said to flatten the toilet paper rolls and cut them into even strips then weave them together. I couldn’t get the loops to work out correctly and the video didn’t have measurements, so this is where I went off book. But here is the link if you are interested: https://pin.it/WD547A6

Since my loops were becoming a problem, I cut them in half and made them into strips. From here I just weaved them over under over under like you would on a loom. I made sure to keep them as tight as possible and went back through at the end to tighten again. When my little square was done, I mod podged it in place, let it dry, then mod podged the back as well.

This is meant to be a coaster for a cup or glass, but since mine is so thin that I don’t want to make a set for my house. I think I will use it in my craft room for my tea 😊. Maybe I’ll paint it and use it for a Halloween decoration. But it did give me an idea! I have a LOT of wallpaper books with fancy prints. The paper is thicker than scrapbook paper and more pliable, so what if I used that to weave placemats? I’ll let you know what I come up with!
