Today’s post is a bit different than usual. I don’t have a craft for you, I just have a few thoughts to share. Last week, my depression and anxiety got the best of me. With everything going on in the world, I just didn’t feel like I could stand up straight anymore. Usually when I feel like I’m carrying the weight of the world (and logic isn’t working), I turn on a sad movie and just let all the feelings out… but this night, the universe had something else for me.
I hopped on Tik Tok for some mindless scrolling, as one does, and I saw this beautiful post reading the definition of a word: https://www.tiktok.com/@kevinktqiu/video/6888295386830621954?sender_device=pc&sender_web_id=6842370550196110853&is_from_webapp=1
In case you can’t open the link, here is the definition I found:
“Sonder: The realization that each random passerby is living life as vivid and complex as your own – populated with their own ambitions, friends, worries, and inherited craziness – an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling seep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra, sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.”
As I was sitting there watching this video over and over again, I finally let the tears fall. I let all the stress of this year hit me and stopped trying to hold myself together. Sometimes life feels so big and in my head, and at first this video made me get serious FOMO realizing how many people I won’t get the chance to know. The more I listened, something about that definition made me step outside of myself and realize that there are SO many people in my life I’m not taking the time to recognize and appreciate as it is… and that needs to change.
I wanted to take a minute and thank all of you for giving me a reason to craft and sharing this creative space with me. Thank you for letting me be an extra in your life. Thank you for giving me something to look forward to during covid. I’ll be back Friday with a normal crafting post, so keep your eyes peeled 😊 And until then, take a moment to appreciate the world we live in. The universe could use a little extra love right now.
