Positivity Jar

Lately I’ve been feeling the need to focus on positive things going on in my life. Sometimes it can be hard to see the good when the bad is so loud, but the more you focus on something the more of it you’ll see. That being said, my resolution is to write down things that make me happy and fill up a jar by this time next year.

I used:

An old coffee tin (clean)
Acrylic paint
Glitter
Glue
Printer paper
Scissors
x-acto knife
clear spray paint
cardboard
duct tape

To start off, I painted my tin a solid gray color. I wasn’t sure how I was going to decorate it, but I knew I needed a base color to go off of. While that dried, I decided to start on my notes. I have a bunch of paper, so I picked a handful of pieces of each. Once I had my selection, I cut them in quarters so the pieces wouldn’t be too large. Now I had a pile of papers and nowhere to put them… so I had to give them a home.

I loosely measured out a piece of cardboard to be slightly larger than my paper. Then I measured more cardboard to be the length of each of the sides and height of 2”. Using duct tape, I attached each of the sides to the main piece of cardboard, then folded them up and taped the corners together to create a box. To make it a little more β€œput together” I taped all the way around so the pattern would continue. Now that my box was done, I put the paper inside and checked back in on my jar.

The paint was dry by now, so I took some pink paint and wrote the quote β€œhappiness is an inside job”. I used glue to attach glitter triangles on the bottom, and added some more painted details like hearts, circles, and stripes. To seal my designs, I covered the tin with a couple layers of clear spray paint. The fun thing about a project like this is it can be decorated however you want! There isn’t a right way to make your positivity jar, as long as it gives you a place to put things that make you happy.

The finishing touch was to take my x-acto knife to cut a slit in the top of the lid. If you have a metal lid or would rather take the top off, this is optional. But I only want to take the top off at the end of the year 😊 I can’t wait to see what your positivity jars look like!! 😊 As always, if you take any fun pictures or videos, tag me on Instagram @SmileMakePeopleWonder and use the hashtag #DandelionSmiles.
