With all the stress and anxiety rolling over from 2021, I realized that I needed to do something different to manage how I was feeling. If you saw Tuesday’s post, you know that I fully believe that focusing on the positive helps you see more of the good going on in the world. This isn’t to say that I believe in toxic positivity… acknowledging the negative and dealing with the emotions those bring is important as well. But super focusing on the things that are going wrong can keep us from appreciating the things that are going right and encouraging more positivity in our lives.
To help myself cope with the stress, relieve my anxiety, and keep my mind focusing on the good, I’ve been starting my mornings with meditation and ended my days with yoga. Aside from breathing, one of the main focuses of these practices has been affirmations. At first, they seem kind of silly… but repeating positive affirmations to myself during the day, especially through meditation, has really helped me believe in myself and look forward to the future. There are SO many affirmations out there. One of my favorite podcasts (Goddess Talk Podcast) even made some into phone wallpapers that I’ve downloaded and can see every time I unlock my phone. But I got tired of looking at my phone to see my affirmations and decided to make a set of flash cards to use so I can put my phone away and just be in tune with myself.
Water color paints
Permanent marker (fine print)
I found this tin in my craft room that I think used to hold oils. It’s about 5.5”x3.5” inside, so it’s a good size to put in my purse, or sit on a counter near my yoga equipment. I wanted my flashcards to be slightly smaller than the container, so I decided on 5.25”x3.25”. Using my ruler, I measured out the flashcards on the cardstock and carefully cut them out.
I already had a list of about 6 affirmations I wanted to write out, but I looked up some more. Narrowing down the cards I wanted to make was the hardest part! But I can always go back and make more 😊 Once I decided on my affirmations, I used my permanent marker to write them on the flashcards in my best handwriting. To decorate, I used the watercolor paints to add a little color in different designs. I had fun with this part and just let my heart do the work. You can add stickers, glitter, stamps… whatever makes you happy! Once the flashcards were dry, I made sure they were flat and put them in their tin home. Now I have some amazing affirmations to keep me looking forward when I’m feeling negative or stressed. If you scroll down, I will post all of them for you. What are your favorite affirmations? What do you tell yourself when you meditate or need to let go of the negativity? I can’t wait to hear from you 😊 As always, if you take any fun pictures or videos, tag me on Instagram @SmileMakePeopleWonder and use the hashtag #DandelionSmiles.
