Pet Paints

For those of us who are single and don’t have kids, Valentine’s Day crafts can get kind of… monotonous. I can only cut out so many hearts to hang in my dining room. But I have adorable animals who also deserve lots of love this Valentine’s Day, so I decided to do a small craft with them.

I used:

A canvas
x-acto knife
Acrylic Paint
Gallon zip lock bags
Dog safe peanut butter
Wet cat food
Permanent marker

My canvas was too big to fit in my zip lock bags, so I cut it in 4 pieces with my x-acto knife. The cuts weren’t perfect, but I wasn’t going for perfection with this project. I picked colors for each of my animals a long time ago (Rollo is greens, Timbee is reds and oranges, and Bagheera is blues and purples), so it was really easy to pick my paint. I chose 3 colors and white for each animal and set them aside.

Next, I prepped each of the bags. Originally, I just had the dogs do this so I spread some peanut butter on one side of each bag. I took my mini canvases and put drops of paint on each of them in little blobs like you see here. Then I carefully slid them in their bags, paint and peanut butter side up, and sealed them tight. The dogs enjoyed licking up their peanut butter and pushing the paint around.

For my cat, I did it a little differently. I put the paint on the canvas, slipped it inside the bag, and sealed it up before I poured some wet cat food on top. Bagheera enjoyed his treat, but didn’t push down the paint as much as the dogs did. Next time, I will use a runnier paint for any cats and a thicker paint for any dogs.

Once my paints were dry, I am used my permanent marker to sign their names before I hang them above their food bowls. I definitely think these were a pet favorite! If you don’t have canvas, you can always use thick paper or cardboard. And if you want to make it really adorable, you can always use some pet friendly ink to use their paws to sign their work 😊 As always, if you take any fun pictures or videos, tag me on Instagram @SmileMakePeopleWonder and use the hashtag #DandelionSmiles.
