I was looking up some journal prompts to get my mind going and I came across this question. It was quickly followed by “What is your most recurrent feeling?” At first, I thought these were lame questions not worth the time to get out my journal or start writing on here. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized how important these truly are. How many times does someone ask, “How are you today?” and we brush it off with a joke or “oh, I’m okay how are you?” instead of actually thinking about it? Now, I’m not saying that the appropriate response is to air all your feelings every time someone asks you this question… but it may be good to reflect once in a while.
It was the second question that got me though. It made me sit here and think about how I’ve been feeling in the last few weeks and months. I’d have to say that my top feelings lately are overwhelmingly positive. Loved, enthusiastic, fortunate, successful, blissful… I could go on. I do have anxiety and depression, so those aren’t going away any time soon but they aren’t my main emotions anymore. Last year at this time, I would have probably said I felt more numb and out of sorts. I had my moments of happiness and looked forward to the future, but not because I was excited to live it… I just hoped I’d be happier. And I guess I was right, to a point.
Anyway, the point of this isn’t to brag about how I feel, though I’m glad I can finally say I’m happy living my life. What I’m getting at is how important it is to actually check in with yourself every once in a while. Maybe not every day or every week, but if you pay attention you’ll see a change. And if you don’t see the change you’re looking for, you’ll be able to see correlations of what makes you happier and what makes you feel worse. Then you can make small changes to help you every day! So what are your answers? How do you feel? What is your most recurrent feeling? And, if needed, what can you do today to change that? 😊 As always, if you take any fun pictures or videos, tag me on Instagram @SmileMakePeopleWonder and use the hashtag #DandelionSmiles.
