Partner Patches

I’m SO excited for this week’s project. My friend Abbie helped me come up with the idea. We were out shopping at Lowes and saw a couple of guys wearing green cargo pants and polo shirts that had badges on them. I joked about the uniform being attractive and wanting to find a reason to have Jarod wear something similar when he comes to my house. Her only response was “what patches are you gonna give him?” so we came up with some joke ideas… that I turned into real ideas.

What started as a joke turned into a plan to show appreciation. I didn’t want this to get expensive, so I wasn’t going to design patches to be made. And I can’t dedicate hours and hours embroidering… so real patches were out. I decided to go back to my crafting roots and make them out of paper. If you haven’t seen my last post, check it out. I made a notebook to put these patches in. I thought if I’m making patches, they have to go in something made specifically for them!

I’m not going to go into specifics on how I made each patch, but here’s how I set everything up. The notebook is half the size of printer paper, so my patches can be a good size. I decided to cut 3”x3” squares out of cardstock to use as background for my badges. I thought up some designs based on the achievements we came up with and made them out of small bits of paper like I do my greeting cards. If you aren’t into paper crafting and wanted to modify this idea, you could sketch, paint, or even print out your designs!

Some of the achievements we came up with are goofy like getting accepted by my house ghosts and putting up with Abbie and me hunting for rocks on our walks. Some of them are more serious like surviving family and taking care of me when I’m sick. I’m excited to see him fill up the book and to have an excuse to go in the craft room more often! But mostly, I’m excited to show him how much I appreciate him. 😊 As always, if you take any fun pictures or videos, tag me on Instagram @SmileMakePeopleWonder and use the hashtag #DandelionSmiles.
